In the Southern Province of Sri Lanka, Hikkaduwa is a tiny town on the country's southern coast. It is situated 98 kilometers south of Colombo and 17 kilometers north of Galle.

Hikkaduwa's name might also mean "forest of coral or seashells."

On the Coastal or Southern Rail Line is Hikkaduwa (connecting Colombo through to Matara). Additionally, the town is traversed by the A2 highway, which runs primarily along to the beach and connects Colombo to Wellawaya.

The economy of Hikkaduwa has historically been built on coconut farming and fishing. When its golden sandy beaches were found, tourism took its place. It is a well-known board-surfing hotspot across the world.
